Elisha talks about his experience auditioning and freestyle rapping with the director during his audition.
The entire cast talk about their issues and experiences with auditioning for roles and share the following:
- The audition room is a huge hurdle because you have to fit into someone else’s idea of what you should be as a person of color
- As a person of color you have to understand that the lens often times is not the lens of the people that you see on stage its the lens of the viewers and the writers
Why minorities do not attend the theater as much as other races:
- Cost
- Positive representation of people of different races and cultures beyond diversity and on to human community and purpose
How to diversify the theater:
- Buy tickets to shows especially minority shows
- Make noise when you see there
- Tell people who work at the theater that you want to see more shows that represent you
Elisha got into theater to be in a play as Santa Clause because he wanted to kiss Ms. Claus

- Todd was once homeless and only able to take a shower every 3 weeks
- Todd stood up to his college dean in order to be able to get started on his new york art journey
- How staying persistent to get his opportunity for a job when he was unemployed paid off
- Todd learned to think about more than being an artist by working in the music industry
- Todd suggests making yourself yourself the center of attention when networking or building an audience by talking to people, putting your work out there, going on social media and adding value and dedicating something to your craft

Kia goes in detail about her journey from working in retail to saving lives in Ameri Core/FEMA and now living her passion as a community gardener in Nashville Tennessee.

- The purpose of community gardening is to bring people's focus back to the land and the earth and have people be connected with their food system. Also to bring people together to cultivate community. Bring people together who may not know one another
- A lot of the vegetables that new American people are used to eating are more expensive in grocery stores which makes community gardening a better affordable option
- Kia volunteered for AmeriCorpos in a branch of FEMA before working in community gardening
- After graduating college Kia worked in retail before working at AmeriCorpos
- She found her inspiration for community gardening at a potluck while in AmeriCorpos where her teammates had all made fresh dishes from their community garden and had a deep sense of community and conversation around the meal. People from different cultures and ethnicities and different foods.
